Job Summary

 

The Packaging Engineer will cross-functionally lead projects with Operations, Sales/Marketing, Supply Chain, Quality, and Product Development. This individual is a technical resource across all locations.

 

Essential Functions:

 

  • Manage complete packaging development process, from concept to design transfer into operations including the creation of packaging designs, prototype development, packaging specifications, and performance testing.
  • Develop and implement comprehensive test plans to ensure packaging exceeds customer specifications.
  • Support manufacturing operation to drive continuous improvements, cost savings, and sustainability goals.
  • Drive technical transfer from Packaging Engineering to Operations, ensuring new packaging performs as designed and meets operational and customer targets.
  • Drive implementation and support for new product launches, cost savings & operations efficiency initiatives and quality investigations.
  • Ensures quoted rates aligns with production rates and is reconciled in the specification and ERP system.
  • Coordinate line trials to ensure package performance for manufacturing.
  • Attend component and manufacturing startups as needed to ensure proper execution of design, function, and manufacturability.
  • Supports Lean initiatives and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Develops and revises procedures and work instructions to minimize packaging line setup and changeover time/cost.
  • Support customer visits.
  • Collaboratively Design and Develop trails, studies and validations with Quality, Product Development, Maintenance and Set-up.
  • Assist with implementation of Flex-Pack wide specification/job cost estimating system.
  • Ensures compliance with GMP work practices.
  • Ensures safety aspects of the equipment meets specifications and requirements to assure employees’ safe working conditions.
  • Perform other tasks or duties as dictated by the needs of the organization.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in packaging, process or manufacturing engineering required.
  • Minimum of 3 years of packaging experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including ability to effectively communicate cross-functionally in a matrix environment
  • Competency in AutoCAD and Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.
  • Ability to leverage and/or engage others to accomplish projects.
  • Experience in writing and executing design, equipment, and process validations.
  • Strong organizational and follow-up skills, as well as attention to detail.
  • Experience in the use of statistical tools (Lean Six Sigma) for problem solving a plus.
  • Show thorough understanding of the interactions between machine, materials, methods, environment, and people to provide robust operating systems.
  • Ability to travel 20% of the time.
