Job Summary

 

The Process Engineer is primarily responsible for problem solving, developing process solutions, driving cost reductions and efficiencies in all areas of production improvement.

This position will be based in Itasca, IL.

 

Essential Functions:

 

  • Lead, support and hold yourself accountable to LEAN principles, VSM and Kaisen events.
  • Drive value by improving setups, uptime and increasing machine efficiency.
  • Drive and measure efficiencies, cost reductions and machine utilization across the operation.
  • Write / track / implement procedures, work instructions, training and improvement measures for machine efficiency and waste reduction.
  • Provide management support by holding Operators, Packers, and Set-up personnel accountable to practicing their jobs safely, maintaining production rates and delivering quality products in a timely manner.
  • Work with Training Department to implement procedures with focus on pre set-up, set-up standard configurations and lean configurations.
  • Partner with the Maintenance Department to support PM’s, critical parts list and improve machine reliability.
  • Work with Product Development and Customer Service on developing customer specifications and designs to support trials and validations.
  • With Product Development, accelerate the trial and set-up process.
  • Serve as the Project Manage new machine installs and develop standards for spare parts and stocking needs.
  • Maximize Overall Equipment Effectiveness.
  • Develop standard operating procedures and work instructions.
  • Track machine issues, drive to resolution through identifying root causes.
  • Write new machine procedures and assist in training.
  • Research new technologies and make recommendations.
  • Assist in equipment purchases with consideration to customer demand, available resources and financial impact.
  • Respond to down machines as needed and directed by the Engineering or Production Manager to maintain production goals in consideration of customer schedules.
  • Provide input on safety and quality improvements with inclusion of cost effectiveness.
  • Perform ROI analysis to justify capital investments.
  • Support customers and partners and respond to needs timely.

Competency or Position Requirements:

 

  • Bachelor of Science in Process, Mechanical, Industrial, Manufacturing or Packaging Engineering.
  • 5-7 years of related experience.
  • Flexible packaging experience a plus.
  • Understanding of LEAN manufacturing principles.
  • Works effectively with production staff and senior management.
  • Proficiency in using Microsoft Office programs is required.
  • Basic understanding of ERP systems.
  • Strong accountability record and the ability to take initiative.
  • Less than 10% travel.
